Press Release August 10, 2006
San Francisco, CA - August 10, 2006 -- People-OnTheGo Launches Free Online Training Modules for Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, BlackBerry, and Treo 650
In Summary: While e-mail, office applications, and handheld devices are becoming primary tools that impact workers’ productivity, most workers are expected to use them with virtually no training and no best practices in place. The result is wasted time, lack of collaboration, and increased technical support calls. People-OnTheGo has released online training modules—currently available free of charge—to help users and training managers in this process.
San Francisco, CA - August 10, 2006 -- While e-mail, office applications, and handheld devices are becoming primary tools that impact workers’ productivity and ability to meet their business objectives, most workers are given these tools and expected to use them with virtually no training and no best practices in place. As a result, these tools tend to be used poorly, which can cause significant loss of time, lack of collaboration, potential errors, and increased technical support calls. People-OnTheGo, a San Francisco based provider of productivity training, has released online training modules—currently available free of charge—to enable workers to better manage and organize their e-mail inboxes, manipulate information and data in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and learn how to use their handheld devices (such as the BlackBerry or Treo 650).
“The People-OnTheGo e-learning platform makes training available to broad audiences,” said Pierre Khawand, Founder and CEO of People-OnTheGo, “and by offering free training modules that address the applications that users use the most, both users and training managers are able to get immediate benefits, and determine if additional training is necessary, and in which areas.” Following this model, users and managers are then able to order additional training in the form of online live workshops, web self-paced classes, or onsite classes.
“The productivity online live workshops, coupled with the web self-paced classes, have been a successful and cost effective formula at Metrocities,” indicated Fred Simkovsky, Vice President of National Training and Development at Metrocities Mortgage. When users asked for advanced Excel training and Microsoft Project training, the training team at Metrocities Mortgage opted for the online live option. “Companies such as People-OnTheGo are coming up with innovative offerings that make it easy and cost effective for our internal training resources to adopt, and therefore focus our own effort on, our core competencies.”
The free training modules offered by People-OnTheGo were carefully selected to address the challenges caused by today’s information overload. The “Using Flags and Search Folders” module for instance, which is part of the “Managing and Organizing Your E-mail Inbox” workshop, enables users to better track unfinished e-mail messages, and organize them for future follow-up. The “Registrations List” module, which is part of the “Microsoft Excel Techniques” workshop, allows users to better manage lists and databases, as well as sort and filter data.
Bill Sywak, a Silicon Valley senior HR professional who has recently participated in the 90-minute Microsoft Excel Techniques online live workshop, confirmed that “these tools [Excel] are so powerful, and we only use a fraction of them at work.” Mr. Sywak also reported that he is now ready to use new capabilities such as formatting styles, the fill handle, and Pivot Tables, as he embarks on his compensation research and analysis project.
As more users—both inside and outside the corporate world—look for better ways to handle data, present information, and collaborate with others, innovative and cost-effective online training programs will become available. The People-OnTheGo free training modules are an example of such programs, and are intended to provide users and training managers with immediate benefits and a more accurate assessment of their training needs. The productivity online live workshops, web self-paced classes, and onsite programs can be the next step in achieving long term, lasting productivity improvements in the workplace.
