multi-taskingMaintaining an online identity is a de facto standard for many professionals. Employers are using involvement in social network sites including Linked In™ and Facebook™, blogging, and a professional’s overall web presence or absence to make evaluation, promotion, hiring, and termination decisions. So what are the payoffs and tradeoffs associated online information?  How do you successfully manage an online professional identity without giving up more time, information, or privacy than you would like? Should you have more than one online identity? If so, how do you manage them all? Building on new research suggesting that some of the common strategies and advice for managing online information might be flawed or incomplete, this webinar provides conceptual understanding, practical strategies, and insight into some of the behind-the-scenes issues of online identity and impression management.

Key Takeaways

  • Gain access to strategies for managing your online career
  • Learn ways to think about potential payoffs and tradeoffs for online career management.
  • Consider ways to resolve work-life tensions affected by online identity information

About the presenter: An assistant professor at Northeastern University, Brenda Berkelaar specializes in the effects of technology on organizational life, particularly work, careers, and leadership. Recently, she examined cybervetting—the use of online information for personnel selection. Brenda translates her expertise into practical strategies designed to enhance individual work, careers, and quality of life as well as organizational success. Experience as a manager, director, and an independent consultant provided Brenda with opportunities to work closely with information technology and organizational leadership of non-profit and for-profit companies.
